Truckee River-New Zealand Mud Snail & Aquatic Invasive Species Outreach
Implementation of AIS/New Zealand Mud Snail outreach campaign directed at informing regional aquatic users of the consequences of new AIS introductions into local waterways. Methods to prevent the spread of AIS will also be addressed. Elements of the program include the following: (1) Creation of an Aquatic Invasive Species outreach coordination group consisting of regional/local government, state government, non-profit organizations and the public, (2) Increasing public awareness through signage and public service announcements, and (3) Providing information to aquatic recreationalists and anglers on proper methods to prevent introduction of aquatic invasive species.
TMWA Benefit:
TMWA supports AIS prevention programs to preserve Truckee River ecology and water quality and to prevent fouling of its raw water system infrastructure upstream of its water treatment facilities.
