Negro Canyon Restoration
Restoration of the Negro Canyon watershed north of Donner Lake. Because of past land use practice including the development of an uncontrolled road network, this portion of the Donner Lake watershed is subject to severe erosion. Its steep nature and volcanic soils also exacerbate the situation. Erosion and the collection of sediments upstream of the Donner Lake Dam also require TMWA to do periodic dredging of the lake bottom.
TMWA Benefit:
This project supports water quality and the watershed of Donner Lake and the Truckee River system, thereby maintaining water quality to the intakes of TMWA’s water treatment facilities. Ultimate completion of the project should result in a reduction in TMWA’s operating costs associated with Donner Lake.
