Truckee Regional Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Program
This program seeks to move to the next level (from a pilot 2010 program) a watercraft inspection program for other critical water supply bodies that contribute to TMWA’s water supply. This grant will fund watercraft inspection at Donner Lake, Stampede Reservoir, Boca Reservoir, Prosser Creek Reservoir, Martis Creek Reservoir, Weber Lake and Independence Lake. Inspection protocol established in 2010 will be utilized and refined in this program. Planning, coordination and training will occur through April 2011 with watercraft inspections occurring from May 1 through September 30, 2011.
TMWA Benefit:
The goal of this program is to prevent the establishment of quagga mussels in the Truckee River, its tributaries and upstream reservoirs. If mussels and other aquatic invasive species get established, then significant harm could be rendered to TMWA intake facilities.
