Hawken Fire Weed Monitoring, Treatment, and Reseeding
The project is a follow-up to the ongoing Hawken Fire Remediation effort. This project is aimed at the quantification, control and monitoring of weeds and exotic species that may impact the revegetation efforts. Work includes surveying of the affected area with a helicopter, herbicide application and some reseeding. All work will coordinated by the Nevada Land Conservancy with consultation with Washoe County.
TMWA Benefit:
Directly benefits water quality and the watershed of the Truckee River, thereby maintaining water quality to the intakes of TMWA’s water treatment facilities. Without remediation of the watershed damaged by the Hawken Fire, TMWA’s water treatment plants will be subject to increased sediment and turbidity loading which could adversely affect treatment.
