Truckee River Eurasian Watermilfoil Survey and Removal
An investigative survey to determine the extent and hot spots of Eurasian watermilfoil within the Truckee River from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake. This effort results in the production and distribution of a GIS based map delineating aquatic invasive species for the entire Truckee River. The “removal” portion of the project consists of removing milfoil with divers along a three-mile stretch of the river beginning at Tahoe City and ending at Alpine Meadows Road.
TMWA Benefit:
Eurasian watermilfoil has established itself at various locations in Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River. At present it is a nuisance to TMWA, intermittently affecting water plant intakes. This project is part of a control strategy which TMWA supports.
