Independence Lake Woody Fuels Reduction for Fire Resilience

Forest thinning on 80 acres at Independence Lake under the direction of The Nature Conservancy. This funding request is for supplemental funding for a program initiated in 2011 but suspended due to delays in obtaining permits from the State of California. A licensed timber harvester will thin trees and remove dense underbrush in the target area

TMWA Benefit:

This project supports water quality and the watershed of Independence Lake, a major source of drought protection water for TMWA. Completion of the project will reduce the risk of catastrophic fire and erosion/sediment deposition into the lake.
