Grant #320

Update of the Truckee Meadows Field Guide for Construction Site BMPs

This project updates the Truckee Meadows Field Guide for Construction Site Best Management Practices (BMPs), which was last revised in 2013, to ensure it reflects current standards, practices, and regulatory guidance. City of Reno staff and regional partners will compile updated photos and peer‑reviewed content, followed by professional graphic design to create a modern, user‑friendly format. The revised guide will undergo comprehensive peer review by key agencies, including the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection (NDEP), the Storm Water Permit Coordinating Committee (SWPCC), and the Western Regional Water Planning Commission (WRWC), before final printing.

A total of 300 printed copies will be produced and distributed over several years to construction inspectors from Reno, Sparks, Washoe County, and NDEP for use with contractors and maintenance teams. Digital copies will also be shared with surrounding jurisdictions to allow additional printing as needed. Distribution will be reinforced through annual SWPCC Construction BMP trainings, ensuring the updated guide reaches contractors and municipal operations staff and supports consistent, effective implementation of construction-site BMPs across the Truckee Meadows.

TMWA Benefit:

This project primarily fulfills the Environmental Awareness Grant Priority VI category, focusing on the development and distribution of educational materials related to watershed protection. Successful distribution of the Field Guide could be a form of Watershed Improvements in that it reduces potential pollution from construction sites.
